Tonight, I would like to adjourn in memory of a local leader and passionate member of our community, Peter Donald Rimac.
Don’s journey began on July 5, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was born to Peter and Mary Rimac.
Raised on the southeast side of Chicago, Don’s early years laid the foundation for a life filled with purpose and passion.
After graduating from Torrance High School, Don pursued his interest in education, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern California and a Master of Arts from California State University Long Beach.
His commitment to learning and leadership led him to a distinguished 40-year career in education, culminating in a Doctor of Education from USC.
Don’s service extended beyond the classroom, as he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey.
Upon his honorable discharge, Don returned to his true calling as an educator, where he positively impacted countless lives through his teaching and administrative roles.
In 1968, Don met the love of his life, Dulcy Bradford, on a flight to Europe.
Their love story led to a joyful marriage and the blessings of their two children, Nicole and Peter.
Together, they created a home filled with love and many cherished memories.
In 1988, Don and I served as inaugural members of the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission.
It was during this historic time that we worked together to create a master plan of how we envisioned the future of Santa Clarita.
Don was also passionate about traveling, USC football and his continued devotion to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Valencia.
Last month, Donald passed away at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
We are thankful for the impact and legacy that Don left on our community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and colleagues during this difficult time.
