Minnie Ann Helvey Murphy passed away September 22, 2013 in Newhall.
She was born on January 27, 1918 in Lang, CA (more commonly known as Soledad Canyon). Minnie was a direct descendent of Santa Clarita Valley pioneer, Thomas Findley Mitchell.
Minnie was the Valedictorian of San Fernando High School in 1935, received a Bachelor in Elementary Education from UCLA in 1939 and a Master in Education from San Fernando Valley State College (now CSUN) in 1968.
She married Matthew Murphy and raised two beautiful children, Robert and Melanie. She was a 1st grade teacher for the LAUSD for 36 years. In her later years, she became a devoted Lakers fan. Minnie is survived by her son, Robert; her grandchildren: Tina, Amy, Karina, Christopher, Megan, and Kathryn; her great-granddaughters: Cynthia and Sophia.
