We have lost a good friend and a cornerstone of the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival .
“Professor” David E. Bourne was more than a legendary piano player. He was a guitarist, singer, author, historian, actor, teacher and horseman.
I was fortunate to get to know Dave through his many appearances at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival. He was a festival favorite. His Ragtime piano playing always drew a crowd.
David played in countless bands and formed the Maple Leaf Club, which was dedicated to the preservation of classic ragtime piano.
David also appeared in many Western productions on the silver screen, including HBO’s “Deadwood” and historical documentaries on The History Channel.
David Bourne passed away on January 30. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patty, two children, two dogs and many lifelong friends.
David was a terrific musician, historian and friend. He will be sorely missed.
Adios, Dave. We’ll see you down the trail.
