I would like to adjourn tonight in memory and honor of a true hero who lost his life protecting others – Los Angeles County Firefighter Andrew Pontious.
On Friday, June 14, Andrew lost his life while battling a large vehicle fire in the City of Palmdale, where he sustained fatal injuries.
Andrew dedicated over 19-years to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, serving with distinction and unwavering commitment.
As a veteran firefighter, Andrew was known for his skill and approachability, always ready to guide and mentor novice firefighters.
He touched countless lives, and his passing is deeply felt by all who knew him, including his County and Los Angeles County Fire Department family.
Andrew grew up in Claremont, born to loving parents, Gary and Ellie Pontious.
He shared a special bond with his brother, retired Fire Captain David Pontious.
Andrew’s love for his family was profound; he was married to his devoted wife Kim and embraced his stepdaughter, Sara, as his own.
Known affectionately as “Uncle,” Andrew cherished spending time with his family, hunting and studying wildlife.
Today, we extend our deepest condolences to Andrew’s wife, Kim; his stepdaughter, Sara; his parents, Gary and Ellie; his brother, David; and all his extended family, friends and colleagues.
As we remember Andrew Pontious, let us also take a moment to thank all our first responders who risk their lives every day for our safety.
