I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of a dear friend who was devoted to serving our community.
Larry Bird was born and raised in South Dakota.
He married his wife, Sue Ann in 1973, before moving to Santa Clarita in 1988, just a year after we became a City.
Larry and Sue Ann became dedicated members of the community.
They purchased an apartment building in Newhall and became very involved in helping turn that area of the City into the thriving place it is today.
He was one of the founding members of the Old Town Newhall Association and very involved in the Newhall redevelopment committee.
He was instrumental in bringing new businesses to the area and transforming Newhall into a vibrant arts and entertainment district.
He was able to work with the local business community to raise funds for the popular “Parkmobile,” which traveled around the underserved areas of Newhall connecting children with games, activities, books and fun.
Larry also served as president of the local chapter of the Lions Club.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Larry’s wife Sue Ann, his two sons, Victor and Eddy, as well as three grandchildren, Victoria, Johanna and Luke, during this difficult time.
