Margo Miller

I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Margo Miller, a longtime resident, entrepreneur, mentor and friend to all, who passed away in November.

Residents of a certain generation will know her as the visionary fashionista and owner of Margo, the upscale clothing boutique in Newhall.

Margo was born December 3rd, 1940 in Granby, Canada.

After losing both parents at a very young age, Margo and her older sister were raised by her Aunt Elsie, who taught Margo the finer points of fashion and etiquette, as well as how to sew.

At the same time, sadly, many of her siblings were sent to an orphanage, which had a profound impact on her and was the inspiration for her professional and philanthropic endeavors.

Margo relocated to California and married her husband, George, and the couple lived in both Burbank and Glendale before buying a home in the first phase of a new community – Valencia.

In the 1970s, she became active in the PTA and also served on the Adoption Guild.

In her lifetime, Margo fostered nine children, three of whom she later adopted.

After taking a job at a fitness gym called Figure Form in Newhall, she was offered a role at a women’s retail store where she later became co-owner.

After her business partner decided to sell, the store became Margo’s and she worked hard to turn it into a destination for her clients, partnering with non-profits to do fashion shows and appeal to independent, career-driven women.

When Margo decided to close her boutique in 2010, her service to the community was not finished.

She went on to work with Single Mothers Outreach, leading the volunteers at Closet On Main in Newhall, which provides free clothing to single parents and their kids.

We will all miss the way Margo made us feel – confident, empowered and a member of the family.

We are saddened by her passing and our thoughts are with her family and friends during this time.
