I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in fondest memory of Ucylene (YU-SELL-LEAN) Carter, a longtime Santa Clarita resident and educator who passed away at the end of April at the age of 89.
Ucylene was born on November 6, 1932, as the youngest of 12 children.
She moved from the San Fernando Valley to Santa Clarita in 1977, where she and her family enjoyed life in Valencia.
She was married to the late Albert Carter, a well-known Blues singer, and the couple raised two wonderful children.
As a 3rd Grade teacher at Hubbard Street Elementary in Sylmar, she made a lasting impression on students that spanned generations.
Throughout her life, Ucylene dedicated herself to others, ensuring that all children and grandchildren were prepared for life ahead of them.
Not just an educator – Ucylene was a mentor, a friend and a champion for her students.
We are grateful for Ucylene’s years of service in the community, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.
I would like to invite up Joyce Carter to accept the adjournment.
