I would like to take a moment to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Teresa Savaikie, a local environmental activist and mother of three who recently passed away.
Teresa was known far and wide for her love of small creatures, and her passion for ensuring wildlife in the Santa Clarita Valley remains protected.
For the better part of the last two decades, she has been a champion for environmental issues facing our community.
When new construction threatened to interfere with rare nesting birds, Teresa immediately went to work with local wildlife agencies to protect the animals.
Over the years, she was also involved in cleanup efforts for the Santa Clara River, preserving local wetlands and fought against the planned CEMEX mine.
She held events over the years to help protect migrating birds at Bridgeport Lake and assisted with restoring Bouquet Creek.
Teresa was also a loving and devoted mother of three who would do anything for her children.
After her son was tragically killed when he was hit by a car in a crosswalk near her home, Teresa turned her advocacy toward traffic safety, including lowering speed limits and improving signage.
Teresa will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her, and our hearts are with her family and friends.
