Tonight, it is with profound sadness that we adjourn in memory of Hank Arklin, a former California State Assemblyman, longtime business owner and a cherished member of our community.
Over the course of Hank’s long and remarkable life, he made an impact in both public service and the business world.
He served in the California State Assembly, where he proudly advocated for the needs of his district.
In addition to his political career, Hank was the longtime owner of the iconic Saugus Cafe, a true Santa Clarita landmark and the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Los Angeles County, serving our community since 1887.
Under his ownership, the Saugus Café built its tradition as a gathering place for friends, families, travelers and history lovers alike.
It has been visited by celebrities, dignitaries and generations of Santa Clarita residents, all drawn to its welcoming atmosphere and rich, local history.
Hank was also the founder of North Valley Construction, which he led for more than 65 years, providing jobs and contributing to the growth and development of our community.
Hank’s contributions extended far beyond his businesses.
He was a dedicated supporter of local institutions, including Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and gave generously to many charitable causes throughout his life.
Hank’s legacy is one of service, generosity and an enduring love for his community.
We are deeply saddened by Hank’s passing and our hearts are with his wife of 55 years, Louise, family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
