Tonight, we adjourn our meeting in honor of an exceptional woman, who I was fortunate to call a dear friend—Diana Cusumano.
For more than three decades, Diana has given her time, her talents and her heart to the Santa Clarita Valley.
Whether in a classroom, a boardroom or behind the scenes at a community fundraiser, Diana has been a constant force for good.
Her record of community service to our City began in 1981 when she moved from Davis to Santa Clarita, with her husband Gary and their three children.
A former high school English teacher and longtime substitute teacher in the Newhall and William S. Hart Union High School Districts, Diana was always an active volunteer in her children’s classrooms and dedicating her time to school reading programs.
She served as President of the Wiley Canyon Elementary School Site Council and spearheaded the establishment of the Newhall Elementary Education Foundation.
She’s helped shape young lives not only through education, but through opportunity—establishing scholarships, championing the arts and ensuring that funding stayed in our local schools.
Her volunteerism reaches far and wide—from College of the Canyons to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, from the SCV Child & Family Center to the Boys & Girls Club.
She has served on more boards and chaired more galas than most can count—always with grace and an eye for detail.
And when Diana turned her passion for beautiful design into a business, she did what she’s always done: she poured her heart into it.
Her hand-painted creations are more than just decorative items—they’re expressions of love and of a life devoted to celebrating the everyday moments that bring people together.
Diana was honored with the College of the Canyon’s Silver Spur award and named Santa Clarita’s Woman of the Year in 2006.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and the countless people who knew and loved her in our community.
