Tonight, I would like to adjourn in the memory of Lillian Shaw, a remarkable woman whose dedication to her family, community and work left an enduring mark on all who knew her.
From a young age, Lillian demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment to public service.
Her first career was a police and fire dispatcher for the Culver City PD and the South Bay Regional Dispatch Center, where she met her husband, Jim.
Lillian and Jim got married in 1984, and moved to Canyon Country.
Lillian’s creativity and entrepreneurial spirit found expression in the craft shows she frequented, where she sold a variety of her own creations.
Despite being forced into early medical retirement from her career as a dispatcher, Lillian’s passion for helping others did not wane.
When her youngest daughter began school, Lillian embarked on her second career as a teacher’s aide at Sky Blue Mesa Elementary School.
Lillian’s commitment to her community was profound.
She was actively involved in numerous community organizations, including Girl Scouts, Optimist International, Canyon Country Little League, Canyon High School band boosters, Special Olympics and the Red Cross.
Lillian was particularly dedicated to car seat safety programs and drives throughout Santa Clarita, ensuring the safety of countless children.
For over 20 years, Lillian played a vital role in organizing the Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade, a testament to her enduring community spirit.
We are deeply saddened by her passing and our hearts are with her daughters Jennifer and Beth.
