It is with profound sadness that I adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Jim Hogan, a friend to us all and a Vietnam Veteran who sadly passed away earlier this month at the age of 77.
Jim was born in Wisconsin in 1947 but grew up in the San Fernando Valley and graduated from Birmingham High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967.
He served three tours of duty in Vietnam primarily with Whitfield’s Deck Division, following in his father and four uncles’ footsteps by serving our country.
After the war, Jim made a career as a building inspector for the City of Los Angeles before retiring and committing his time to being an advocate for local Veterans.
Jim served with Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial Incorporated and was known as a tireless advocate for his fellow Veterans in our community.
His leadership and tenacity helped with the creation of the City’s Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall, which is dedicated to the memory of all Santa Clarita Valley Veterans who have served our country since World War I.
He received numerous awards such as: Recipient of The Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service, National Advisory Committee 2014 Male Volunteer of the Year and the Blinded Veteran’s Association Major General Melvin J. Maas Achievement Award for 2015.
We are saddened by Jim’s passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
