Tonight, I would like to adjourn in the memory of Thomas McNaughton Frew IV, a dedicated member of our City with a legacy deeply rooted in the rich history of Santa Clarita.
From the blacksmith shop his grandfather established in 1900 to the evolving landscape of metalwork through the generations, Tom’s family played a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of Newhall.
At the helm of the family business, Tom steered it towards machining and welding, but his true passion lay in the realm of entertainment.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in cinema and ventured to Europe in 1970 to contribute to the world of film.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Tom was deeply engaged in the community, serving on the downtown Newhall Redevelopment Committee, leading the City’s Fourth of July Parade as Grand Marshal and contributed significantly to the SCV Historical Society, of which he was a past president.
His commitment to preserving the region’s history is evident in his donation of the anvil his grandfather brought to Newhall in 1900, which is now a cherished artifact within the Santa Clarita History Center.
Tom was the kind of person who would share his knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn; he spent several years as a docent at Hart Park teaching visitors of all ages about the history of our valley.
Tom’s legacy will live on in our community and he will be greatly missed.
We are deeply saddened by his passing and our hearts are with his son, Eric, and grandsons, Daniel, Kevin and Garrett.
