Tonight, I would like to adjourn in memory of a cherished community member and close friend – Jeff Wheat.
Hailing from the state of New York, Jeff studied at the University of Rochester before moving to California in the 70’s.
He chose the Santa Clarita Valley to put down roots in 1982.
Jeff had an amazing career as a television cameraman and was honored with several Emmy awards and by the Directors Guild of America for his work on the popular series, “Friends.”
His love for western history drew him to volunteer at the William S. Hart Museum and join the board of the Friends of Hart Park.
He was a dedicated contributor to our Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, promoting concerts and taking part in other fundraisers such as Silents Under the Stars and the Hart of the West Pow Wow.
Jeff has also worked on the local SCV Boys and Girls Club auctions and the yearly Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles fundraisers.
He has been recognized by Congress for his contributions to the American Folklife Center’s Local Legacies Project; by the American Red Cross for assisting earthquake victims; and he received the Patriotic Service Award from the Department of Treasury for his patriotism.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
