I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in loving memory of Jami Kennedy, a resident of Santa Clarita for more than 65 years, who passed away on July 4 at the age of 74 after a long illness.
Jami was born June 6, 1948, and was a devoted volunteer who committed herself to making Santa Clarita better for all residents.
As a child, Jami was one of three elementary school representatives involved in the groundbreaking for Sierra Vista Junior High, which became the first junior high school in Santa Clarita.
She and her dear husband Bob owned and operated a plumbing contracting business locally for 15 years.
As she got more involved in volunteering, Jami began serving a number of organizations in our community.
She was the recipient of the Boys & Girls Club Volunteer of the Year award in 1984 and the Sam Dixon award in 1987, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
She volunteered with the Club for more than 30 years.
In addition, Jami was a member and past president of the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley, as well as the SCV Crisis Community Hotline.
She was involved with the Red Cross, Carousel Ranch, School and Business Alliance, Gibbon Conservation Center and Project Town Angels, among others.
For her selfless dedication to our community, Jami was named SCV’s Woman of the Year in 1989.
Outside of volunteering, Jami was known for her love of exotic birds, which she rescued.
She was a great friend, and I loved her dearly.
We will miss Jami tremendously, and our thoughts are with her daughter Denise, son-in-law John and grandchildren Connor and Keira at this difficult time.
