I would like to take time tonight to adjourn in memory of Judge Alan S. Rosenfield, a longtime judge and member of our community who recently passed away at the age of 70.
The Honorable Judge Rosenfield earned his bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College in Iowa in 1973, before beginning a career in law enforcement and later on the bench.
Judge Rosenfield served as a deputy sheriff from 1976 to 1984.
During that period, he found time to complete his law degree, which he received from Southwestern Law School in 1979.
From 1980 to 1984, he served as a bailiff before joining the District Attorney’s Office as a deputy DA – a position he held for six years.
In 1990, he was appointed to the Newhall Municipal Court and then became a judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court when the systems unified in 2000.
During his career, Judge Rosenfield presided over criminal cases at the Santa Clarita, Lancaster and Antelope Valley courthouses until his retirement in 2017.
Judge Rosenfield dedicated his life to justice for all who appeared before him.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
