I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Charlotte Kleeman, a longtime member of our community and former SCV Woman of the Year, who recently passed away.
Charlotte was born in Chicago and grew up in North Hollywood.
After graduating from Occidental College, she worked as a social worker before earning two teaching credentials.
Charlotte and her husband, Frank, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1965 and the pair immediately went to work serving our community.
In her years in Santa Clarita, Charlotte served on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of SCV, where she was an extremely active fundraiser.
She also chaired the Ambassadors of the SCV Chamber of Commerce.
Other organizations that benefitted from her service were the SCV Child and Family Center, where she chaired the Taste of the Town fundraiser, and the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, where she was president of the board for two years.
Charlotte also served on the local Arts Council and was on the board of the Repertory East Playhouse – now known as The MAIN theatre in Old Town Newhall.
She served on the board of the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health, as well as the College of the Canyons Foundation.
For her commitment to service in Santa Clarita, Charlotte was named SCV’s Woman of the Year in 1996.
This honor motivated her to volunteer even more and continue making an impact, and in 2002 she and Frank were voted “Philanthropists of the Year” by the Network of California Community Colleges.
In 2005, she and Frank received the Silver Spur award for community service by College of the Canyons.
Charlotte was an incredible woman who undoubtedly left a lasting positive impact on the people she met. She will be dearly missed.
Our thoughts are with Charlotte’s family and friends during this time.
