I would like to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Ethel Nakutin, a vibrant supporter of the Santa Clarita community and a former publisher of the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
Ethel sadly passed away recently following a long battle with kidney disease at the age of 80.
She had a decades-long career in the newspaper industry, starting out as an advertising sales manager at the Los Angeles Daily News in 1983.
In 1988, she became the Advertising Director at The Signal and was eventually named the paper’s Publisher in 2001. She served in that role until her retirement in 2004.
She also worked for local publication – Inside SCV Magazine.
Ethel will be remembered by those who knew her as a kind, compassionate woman who dedicated her life to serving her community and local non-profit organizations.
Her former colleagues recently shared the impact Ethel had on them personally and professionally, sharing that she made Santa Clarita a better place to live and she treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Her friends remember her as a remarkable soul with a giving heart.
We will all miss Ethel and the spirit she brought to the Santa Clarita community.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
