It is with a heavy heart that I adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Adele Macpherson, a woman who is well known and much loved for her dedication to serving those around her and our Santa Clarita community.
For her lifetime of service, the City was honored to present Adele with a Key to the City on July 13.
We are thankful to have had Adele back at City Hall for this momentous occasion which paid tribute to her work for the City, as well as the many local non-profits to which she willingly donated her time, skills and passion.
Adele grew up in England and lived in Israel, Canada and Washington State before moving to the Santa Clarita Valley in 1986.
When she moved to Santa Clarita, she began working with the American Red Cross and joined her local school’s PTA.
In the early ‘90s, Adele became the City of Santa Clarita’s Emergency Coordinator and Community Services Superintendent.
In her time with the organization, she was responsible for emergency preparedness and response and guided the City and residents through the recovery period following the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.
She retired from the City after 19 years of service.
Over the years, Adele donated her time to a number of organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley, including the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, the Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley, the SCV Committee on Aging, the American Heart Association, the SCV Resource Center, the School-to-Business Alliance, the Boys and Girls Club of SCV, the United Way, the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health, the Child and Family Center, and the Daughters of the British Empire.
It was due to her contributions to our community that she was named the Santa Clarita Valley’s Woman of the Year in 2002.
We are all heartbroken by Adele’s passing and we join her family and friends in mourning the loss of a tremendous community support and all-around wonderful woman
