I would like to take time to adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Jake Medina Worden, a vibrant young man with a bright future who is gone from our world far too soon.
Jake sadly passed away on Christmas Day in San Luis Obispo at the age of 20.
He was a senior Computer Science major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and was set to graduate this Spring.
Jake was among the top of his class – no small feat in a major as difficult as Computer Science at a school with as rigorous a program as Cal Poly.
He made the Dean’s List each semester, often with a 4.0 GPA, and had plans to continue his studies after graduation in Berlin at one of Germany’s foremost engineering schools.
Jake is the son of Leon Worden – Executive Director of SCVTV – and the grandson of Connie Worden-Roberts – a pioneer of cityhood and a member of Santa Clarita’s first Planning Commission.
I had the pleasure of knowing Jake since he was a baby and watched him grow up over the years.

The news of Jake’s passing was and is heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this most difficult time.
