It is with a heavy heart that I adjourn tonight’s meeting in memory of Meaghan Andrea York, a young Canyon Country woman who was tragically killed in a collision with a suspected drunk driver earlier this month.
Whenever anyone loses their life on our City streets, the tragic loss is felt throughout the community. And as your City Council…this unnecessary loss of a bright young life – is devastating.
Meaghan was 21 years old. She was known by her family and friends as a loving and caring woman, who had a brilliant future ahead of her.
In addition to serving at Real Life Church in Valencia in the children’s ministry, Meaghan was attending College of the Canyons and taking classes in child care.
Her love of children and God drove her passion for making a difference in our community. Her personality and spirit brightened the lives of those around her, and she had a profound impact on the families and children she worked with.
Our thoughts are with Meaghan’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time.
Let this tragic event serve as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving. All too often an innocent person is the one who loses their life.
