At this time I would like to adjourn in memory of Jane Terpening Hanson, a longtime Santa Clarita resident who passed away in July, at the age of 89.
Jane was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania on January 8, 1929, before moving with her family to New York. She was a double major in Political Science and Spanish at Middlebury College in Vermont, before landing a job at Time Inc. in New York City.
One day, while riding the train from upstate New York to Manhattan, a man named Tom Hanson asked if he could sit beside her in an empty seat. That one morning led to a marriage of 65 years, three children and two grandchildren.
Jane and Tom moved to California, where they settled in Newhall in 1962. She was the co-founder of Courses a la Carte in Newhall in the 1970s, then worked as an engineering aide at Sun Oil until her retirement.
Jane was a founding member and past president of the American Association of University Women’s chapter in Santa Clarita and also volunteered her time at the local library.
Our thoughts are with Jane’s husband Tom, their children Robin, Kari and Chris, grandsons Andy and Spencer, and their extended family and friends during this difficult time.
