I’d like to take this moment to adjourn in memory of John Kunak, a pillar of our community and a longtime member of the Castaic Area Town Council, who passed away on September 28th.
John had many roles in is personal and professional life: husband, father, lawyer and Town Councilman to name a few. However, to the countless folks who knew and worked with him, John was always a champion for people.
Professionally John was a successful attorney for more than 30 years, standing up for his clients against insurance companies and making sure they were treated fairly and as human beings, instead of statistics.
And John was excellent at what he did. If you asked him he’d tell you that his clients won practically every trial. His work as a lawyer led him to also put his people-first values into action in our local community.
John always worked hard to do the right thing and ensure that the right thing was always being done. He was in the middle of his third term on the Castaic Area Town Council and was the chair of the council’s Public Safety Committee.
He also served two terms as a Trustee of the Castaic Union School District and was active in the Lion’s Club and Castaic Education Foundation, among other volunteer groups. For his dedication to his neighbors and the community, the Town Council and Chamber of Commerce chose John as the Volunteer of the Year and Man of the Year.
We are all saddened by the loss of John and our thoughts are with his wife Mary and their family during this difficult time.
