We adjourn tonight’s meeting in honor of a true Santa Clarita Pioneer, Melba Walker Fisher.
The Walker family was one of Santa Clarita’s original founding families. They built the first homestead in Placerita Canyon, and donated the land for Placerita Canyon State Park.
Melba was born in 1916 at the Walker Cabin, which still stands at the Placerita Nature Center.
In her later years, Melba was very involved in volunteering at the SCV Senior Center.
She loved gardening, music and telling stories about her life in Santa Clarita.
Melba passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day. She was 98 years old.
We honor Melba and the Walker family for their priceless contributions to Santa Clarita.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Melba’s family and loved ones at this time.
