Tonight we adjourn our City Council meeting in honor of two American heroes. First, we begin with Jim Stone.
Jim was a long-time Santa Clarita resident who was deeply involved in our community.
As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Jim showed his love for his country and community by volunteering for the City’s annual 4th of July Parade for 40 years!
To recognize his decades of service, Jim was elected Grand Marshal of the parade in 2012. He was joined by his wife, Bobby, who served as a Marine – yes, a Marine! – in WWII.
Jim never turned down an opportunity to give back.
He started volunteering in 1972, when he set up the sound system for the very first Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club auction.
Throughout the next 40 years, Jim gave countless hours to his community.
He lent a helping hand to Frontier Days and the Walk of Western Stars, and was an instrumental part of the SCV Senior Center.
Jim passed away in April of this year. We honor him for his service to our country and our community, and will forever cherish his incredible legacy of giving back.
