Tonight we will adjourn our City Council meeting in honor of Rosie Matuz, a long-time Santa Clarita resident and mother of former Planning Commissioner, Linda Townsley.
Rosie was born in La Union, New Mexico, as the second of nine children. She came to Los Angeles as a child with her family, and moved to Santa Clarita in 1939 shortly after marrying her sweetheart, Willie.
Rosie and Willie were pioneers of the Santa Clarita Valley and raised their family here. They were married 62 years, until Willie’s passing in 1998.
Rosie passed on January 15, surrounded by three generations of loving family members. She was 95 years old.
Rosie is survived by her daughters, Rosie, Stella and Linda, as well as 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rosie’s family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosie’s honor to the Santa Clarita Senior Center’s, Meals on Wheels Program.
